South Khorasan Province is in the eastern part of Iran, on the border of Afghanistan. Its capital is the city of Birjand. A major city is the desert city Tabas, on the crossroads to Kerman and Isfahan.
The province has hot and dry weather. The best times to visit are spring and fall. Winter is harsh on occasion, but relatively tolerable.
Tourist attractions in South Khorasan province include the Arg-e Kolah Farangi, Makhunik village, Tabas Golshan garden, Tomb of Bozorgmehr Qaini and the picturesque Nayband village.
