Ecolodges of Iran (also spelled eco Lodge & eco-lodge) refer to traditional accommodations, homestays or hostels found in rural areas.
Stays in rural hostels are a key component of authentic travel in Iran.
They rarely have showers and bathroom in every room or maid service, and definitely not BBC broadcasts.
Instead, though, one meets hosts living in the village – often a family who opened up their ancestral home – who are on a persistent mission to shower guests with kindness.
The experience differs completely from going to a hotel. Ecolodges of Iran give you the most authentic experience of Persian hospitality, short of staying in someone’s private home (which is also possible).
Currently, some 3,400 authorized eco-lodge units are active across the country, according to the ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts.
We are always looking for decent ecolodges to visit and write about. We avoid hotels, which often fall far short of International standard.
